Lately, we have started walking in earnest with our poles again!
A very beneficial form of exercise, born in the snow-bound northern hemisphere and
now taking Europe by storm, has now come to Western Australia.
Nordic walking is rhythmic walking with specially designed poles attracts the attention
of traditional walkers in Perth.
Originating in Finland in the 1930s Nordic walking involves strolling with a special technique and
swinging the arms, using purpose-designed poles with wrist attachments. It can be done on grass,
on the beach, on bike paths, or even on bush tracks. The poles have adaptable tips for different conditions.
Nordic walking burns about 400 calories per hour, compared with 280
calories for traditional walking – involving 90 percent of the body’s
muscles. It encourages better breathing and good posture, incorporating
resistance training without the jarring of knees and other joints.
Nordic walking provides a whole-body workout for people needing more
vigorous exercise than strolling, or for those who have a medical condition
that precludes jogging. It is suitable for all ages.
Because of the wonderful even, synchronized Cross Crawl pattern, which the body automatically and easily assumes during this activity one feels empowered to walk longer, faster, and further with less perceived effort.
While burning away the calories and strengthening the whole body core, the legs, and upper body muscles
it really is a great way of getting fit and building up endurance.
A One on One teaching session fee is $50.-pp
If you want to lend out poles for further walks, it's $10 .
A new pair will cost you $150, or a bit more, depending on the model and make - they last you for a lifetime:-)
They are fitted to your personal height.
The only thing that needs replacing after a year or so is the pair of rubber feet, we sell those as well.
